FSC® Certification
What is FSC® forest certification?
- Forest Stewardship Council™ is an independent non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 1993. It was established by a coalition of global environmental groups, timber trade organizations, forestry workers, local communities, and certification bodies. It is one of the most recognized forest certification standards internationally.
There are two types of FSC® certification
- "Forest Management (FM) Certificate" : This is awarded to organizations managing forests, ensuring that the land is operated in an environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable manner.
- "Chain of Custody (CoC) Certificate" : This is awarded to manufacturers, suppliers, and retailers of forest products, such as furniture manufacturers, the paper industry, printing companies, and all wood-related product sectors. It ensures that all supply chain processes—from logging in the forest, through production, transfer, and distribution, to the final consumer—are derived from responsibly managed forests, recycled materials, and other controlled sources, free from illegal timber.
